Article 4. of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.
Banning slavery is one of the oldest banning recognised in international law. However it’s necessary to be very careful because new and different slavery forms are forming and developing. Unfortunately today more than 21 millions women, men and children are subject to modern slavery forms and, according to data from 50forfreedom.org, today there are more slaves than in any other time in history. Trafficking in human beings, exploitation of work for debt, sexual exploitation or forced domestic works are only a few examples of the modern slavery. So it’s necessary to act the 1. goal of the 2030 Agenda of the Unites Nations , namely to put an end to all poverty forms, the main cause of slavery. Fight against all forms of poverty and overcome it is really important to assure to the civilization not only a possible future, but also a sustainable present.
