29 OCTOBER FAENZA ECONOMY OF FRANCESCO

The first of the seven meeting of the roadshow “For the Common Benefit” promoted by Sara Cirone Group Benefit Society and by the Italian Federation of the Catholic weekly magazines of Emilia Romagna will take place on Tuesday, 29 October at 18.00 in the Enrico De Giovanni Room of the town hall of Faenza. Among above-mentioned weekly magazines takes the lead the periodical of the Diocese of Faenza-Modigliana “Il Piccolo”. The title of the meeting in Faenza is “the Common Benefit for persons, companies and territories” on which will comment don Otello Galassi, the regional responsible of Faenza and president of the Romagna Faentina Union; Mirella Paglierani, president of the Gemos cooperative and Sara Cirone.
The main theme starts from the 4th chapter, IV article of the encyclical of Francesco Pope “Laudato si” dedicated to the Principle of the common good.

The common good
According to the Pontiff, the common good, as the sum of social conditions which allow people, either as groups or as individuals, to reach their fulfilment more fully and more easily, “ it is respect for the human person as such, endowed with basic and inalienable rights ordered to his or her integral development. It has also to do with the overall welfare of society and the development of a variety of intermediate groups, applying the principle of subsidiarity”, where the family has a central role. Pope Francesco goes on in the encyclical “the common good calls for social peace (…) which cannot be achieved without particular concern for distributive justice (…) the whole of society is obliged to defend and promote the common good.”

A fair economy
It’s about this issue of the distributive justice and of the good of territories and persons the meeting of Faenza, also in the light of the meeting “The economy of Francesco” that the pope himself has called for the 26-28th March in Assisi, during which he called together young people,, entrepreneurs and economists in order to establish a pact according to the spirit of san Francesco, so that the economy of today and tomorrow is fairer, fraternal, sustainable and with a new limelight of those who today are excluded.

Towards an integral ecology
A step towards the future should be made for a sustainable development which preserves the environment and which sees an intergenerational and intragenerational solidarity. This is an important issue, which has to deal with justice: an integral ecology. In fact, it’s no longer possible to continue with a utilitarian exploitation of resources and people, that is aimed to its own personal benefit. Over the times, this old vision has resulted in unsustainable rhythms of consumption and waste that consequently led an ecological, ethical and cultural degradation that makes people more and more individualistic and selfish with serious repercussions on environment and on interpersonal and intragenerational relationships.

People of good will
So, it’s really important to become aware of the pathologic condition in which our economy is and to implement a new economic model. That’s why the roadshow goes in this direction: to involve in this change of direction entrepreneurs, researchers, workers, economic operators, civil society actors and all people of good will, in order to be jointly taking a step towards the development of the civilisation.
